Search Engine Traffic

Jeff Paul thinks in Shortcut to Internet Millions, while search engines and/or directories can be a big part of your web traffic, they’re not as important as they used to be and the reason is because it’s harder to master the search engines than it used to be, but it is one tool in the many ways that you’re going to build traffic. And beside that fact, search engines are also always changing their criteria for getting listed. So, the advice we give you here might be different by the time you read the book. There is a lot of competition out there and there are a lot of sites and everybody’s trying to get at the top of the search engines, so I suggest you follow the small advice here in this book, plus don’t forget to read our companion search engine book.

How The Search Engines Rank Your Website

Jeff Paul says according to Shortcut to Internet Millions, so how do the search engines actually decide who goes at the top of their results pages? Well, like we mentioned before, the criteria changes from time to time and it’s actually different from one search engine to the next. The main consideration really is content. They are looking at your pages and it’s reading the words on your pages for what are called “keyword phrases.” And it’s basically saying, “Hey, does this website really match up to this particulartopic?” So here are a couple of elements from your web pages that actually have to do with keywords and they actually can affect your search engine ranking.

  1. The page title.
  2. The description meta tags.
  3. Keyword meta tags.
  4. Jeff Paul says in Shortcut to Internet Millions how close to the top of the web page is your topic explained, i.e. if your topic is about marketing, do you have a headline very close to the top of the page that actually uses your keywords?
  5. Jeff Paul says in Shortcut to Internet Millions the frequency of the keywords. In the old days, people used to put invisible words on their page and put the keywords over and over and over and over again, and this worked because the more time the keyword was listed, the more relevant the search engine thought your page was. Well, the search engines are smart enough not to fall for that anymore. However, they do look for the keywords to be sprinkled throughout your page at a certain rate, and these rates are always changing. There are software tools that can tell you the keyword relevancy and frequency on your pages.
  6. Finally, how close those keywords appear to each other. So again, if the keywords were right one after another and you listed them 100 times, the search engine would be on to that trick.  Jeff Paul says according to Shortcut to Internet Millions.

In Shortcut to Internet Millions, Jeff Paul says all the information about this topic is further explained in your Search Engine Magic Book.
